Action Council for Teresian Home Scientists [ACTH]

Alumnae Association of the Department of Home Science
  • A very vibrant Alumni Association of the Department of Home Science was established with an aim to bring together the alumni of the Department of Home Science in St. Teresa's College which started its graduation course in 1960.
  • ACTH was Established in 2002 and was formally inaugurated in January 17th 2003 and the same day is celebrated as Alumni day and  opted for Annual General Body Meeting.
  • 1st President of the ACTH happened to be Sr. Irminia, Retired Professor of Home Science. Her tenure continued till 2008 March.
  • A Meeting held on 29th March 2008 and it was decided to celebrate Golden Jubilee of the Department in a befitting manner.
  • A grand Alumni get together was held on 14th January , 2009 to commemorate Golden Jubilee.
  • An alumni Scholarship was instituted by collecting a corpus fund, the interest of which is utilized for giving scholarship to 10-12 students annually. The first distribution was on 2nd December 2010 to 11 students by the then Principal Sr. Christabelle.
  • Alumni directory was released on February 26th, 2011, which was the brainchild of Smt. Sara Abraham, Retd. Professor, Dept. of Home Science and is released due to her constant efforts.
  • A newsletter by the name "Beacon" was released by the department in 2014.
  • A CD ‘Horizons in Home Science’ was prepared with an intention to popularise Home Science as a subject of study.
  • The office bearers are elected Bi-annually and all the faculty members were co-opted as committee members of the Alumni to work actively in the various endeavours of  ACTH.

The Department of Home Science, St. Teresa's College:


It was the far sighted vision and zealous effort of the then principal Mother Digna Bernadine the Foundress of the department that culminated in the establishment of the department of Home Science in 1958. The department touched a significant milestone in 2008, by completing fifty glorious years of fruitful functioning.

The  vision of the department is the true empowerment of women who would build wholesome families, create healthy societies and contribute to the betterment of the nation and the world at large.
The mission of the department is to equip, enable and empower young women to lead professionally rewarding and personally satisfying lives.
